Diagnostic Imaging

Cancer Care Centers of Brevard offers CT scans and PET/CT scans (also referred to as “CAT scans”), which are important in cancer diagnosis, staging and follow-up of a cancer patient.

Brain and Body CT scan (computed tomography)

  • Provides detailed 3-D x-ray of the brain and body
  • Allows us to image the internal anatomy of the brain and body
  • We study the size and extent of a cancer
  • We look for cancer in other organs

Whole body PET/CT (positron emission tomography
and a CT scan)

  • Detailed body scans using radioactive material (PET) and
    CT scan
  • Allows us to study the biologic (PET) and anatomic (CT) details
    of a cancer
  • Allows us to identify spread of cancer not seen on a CT
    scan alone
  • Allows us to check up on your progress after treatment has
    been complete
Diagnostic Imaging
Imaging helps the care team localize and plan
your treatment using precise measurements

Image Fusion

  • It is important to look at all of your scans before treatment
  • We review any outside MRI, CT scans, PET scans etc
  • Sometimes these images are “fused” or overlayed  to allow us to better visualize the tumor in 3-D space
  • This results in better treatment planning and a more customized treatment plan for you
