You will follow-up with your Radiation Oncologist and your other physicians on a regular basis.  If you have any diagnostic exams done between follow-ups, please let the nurse know so she can obtain the reports for the doctor prior to your follow up appointment. Should you not be able to keep your appointment with us, call the office and reschedule for a more convienient time. Use good judgment regarding activities and diet. Continue to rest and eat well-balanced meals. You may remove temporary skin markings with a mild lotion. Please do not scrub!

OUR NURSES ARE HERE TO HELP YOU!

Nursing Staff

Our nursing staff is trained in the care of cancer patients, especially those patients receiving radiation therapy treatments. Each of our facilities is staffed with one or two nurses, and some are Oncology Certified Nurses (OCNs) who have successfully completed a national certification examination demonstrating specialized knowledge in oncology nursing. Our nursing staff is a vital part of your radiation oncology team. Your nurse will work closely with you and your family.

Patient Education

Your nurse will meet with you before starting treatment, and regularly to help you understand each step of your treatment course. A nurse will always be available to answer your or your family’s questions.

Coordination of Care

Our nursing staff coordinates your care with your other physicians' offices and work hard to make your treatment course run smoothly. They help avoid duplication of services.  If you have a test done at your other physician’s office, inform your nurse so that we may obtain copies for our records. Nurses schedule any tests ordered by your Radiation Oncologist, and coordinate them with your daily treatment schedule such that any inconvenience to you is minimized.

Side Effects

This is a common concern, and one that may cause unnecessary anxiety. Your Radiation Oncologist develops a unique treatment plan for every patient.  At Cancer Care Centers of Brevard, we use up-to-date equipment and state-of-the art techniques to minimize radiation exposure.  Many patients to return to work or play immediately after their daily treatment.  Your doctor will discuss any side effects, if any, that may be expected.
