What Increases Your Risk of Laryngeal Cancer?

There are some things that make a person more likely to develop laryngeal cancer. Although some people develop laryngeal cancer without any risk factors present.

Some risk factors can be controlled, while others cannot.

Some risk factors that are out of your control:

  • Age (more common among patients 65 years of age or older)

  • Race (more common among Caucasians and African Americans)

  • Gender (men are more susceptible than women)

  • Genetic syndromes (inherited gene mutations)

Other risk factors that you do have control over:

  • Smoking and/or chewing tobacco

  • Moderate or heavy alcohol use (more than one drink a day)

  • Poor nutrition

  • Long-term workplace exposure to certain chemical fumes.
